Our Mission & Values The Warming Shelter was established with the mission of ensuring that homeless individuals in the Siouxland Community would have a place to go to ensure their survival during the frigid Iowa winters.Since opening in 2013 there have been no reported deaths due to unsheltered individuals not having a warm place to go during the winter months.
Our mission has since then grown into much more than just a place to stay.
The Warming Shelter is available to
ALL INDIVIDUALS
who are experiencing homelessness.
We are dedicated to serving the homeless community with the utmost compassion and respect.
The Warming Shelter values human dignity and
the lives of every individual that walks through our doors. Our dedicated staff members go aboveand beyond to fulfil our mission day in and day out!
We have come a long way since opening our doors and
continue to make leaps and bounds
while advocating for the homeless community.
Our History
The Warming Shelter was established in 2013 when a team of Sioux City’s most devoted citizens identified a huge need in the community for a place for homeless individuals to go during the harsh Iowa winters. Success in meeting this need required dedication, time, and resources. Many barriers were faced over the next several years as the number of individuals accessing services through The Warming Shelter grew. As needs grew, members of the community delivered!
Support was offered by individuals, churches, and many other groups in our community. They offered time, supplies, meals, donations, and much more. 9 years later, our shelter has been able to provide hundreds of men, women, and families with the warmth of hope by providing a place to escape the frigid weather.
Since The Warming Shelter opened it's doors, there have been no reported deaths in our community resulting from unsheltered individuals freezing. This has been done with no government support in order to maintain the ability to allow anyone and everyone to enter our shelter without meeting any sort of criteria.
As of June 2022, The Warming Shelter has provided 96,000 nights and 56,000 days of shelter for those in need. Working hand in hand with local charitable organizations, The Warming Shelter hopes to be part of creating comprehensive programs to connect homeless individuals with desperately needed aid and eventually sucessful independent living.
